HEARD in Nottingham, England

Thomas HEARD 1st was a lacemaker in Alfreton Road, Radford,, Nottingham, England. He married Mary WHITEHEAD (DOB 1816, Nottingham), 2 October 1833 at Beeston.
According to IGI records, they had the following children:
(1)James, born 6 March 1839 at Lenton, Nottingham, England
James married Harriett TURNER (DOB 15 June 1838) on 25 April 1859.They had two children in England, Emmiline, born 18 December 1859 and John Henry (Harry), born 8 December 1861. They migrated to Christchurch, New Zealand on "David G Fleming" arriving, 10 December 1863.James was a bricklayer.

(2) Sarah Ann, born 1843 at Radford, Nottingham.

(3) William, born 1847, at Radford, Nottingham.

(4) Thomas HEARD 2nd was born at Radford, 16 November 1849, and learnt the joinery trade.
He married Charlotte HIND, daughter of Samuel Woodward HIND and Elizabeth (nee MORGAN) who was born 15 March 1853 at South St, Radford. Samuel HIND was an engraver.
Thomas and Charlotte married 7th June 1870.

In the 1871 Census, taken 2/3 April, in the Municipal ward of Sherwood in the town of Nottingham,living at 30 Orzen Street were
Thomas HEARD, head of the household age 60 (?), occupation Lace Maker,born Beeston,Nottingham.
Mary wife of Thomas age 55, occupation Grocer, born Nottingham.
Thomas, son age 21, occupation Joiner, born Radford, Nottingham.
Charlotte (nee HIND), son's wife age 19, born Radford, Nottingham.

The first daughter of Thomas and Charlotte, Annie Maria was born at Nottingham 8 July 1871.

Thomas sailed to New Zealand to the port of Lyttelton on "Adamant" saling July 16th 1873. He was listed as a single man-was not accompanied by Charlotte or Annie Maria.
