HODGKINSON

Ellen (Nee WHEELER), formerly SNOWSILL married William Wagstaff HODGKINSON 2 November 1878 at St John's Church, Napier.

William was born at Worksop, Nottingham, England.,c1840. His parents were Richard and Jane (Nee WAGSTAFF).
He died  9 June 1917 and is buried Block A plot 70, Hastings Cemetery.

They had five children.
Mildred Louise was born at Clive 22 October 1879. She  married Henry WEBB and lived to 101 years,dying in 1980. Her death was registered at Levin.

Elizabeth Mary  was born at Clive 24 April 1881. She married Emil George BEUTH 10 December 1900.
She died 4 September 1976 and is buried at Napier.

Edward Harold  was born at Clive 21 September 1883. He married Myrtle Winifred TONG.
Edward Died 24 May 1955. Winifred died 8 October 1978.
They are buried at Hastings Cemetery - Block M,Row 15, plot 486.

Norman Richard was born at Clive,3 November 1885.
He married Maud.
A son, William Wagstaff who was born 2 February 1917 was killed 29 July 1944 while serving in NZEF in Italy. He is buried at Florence,Italy. For more details. check the Commonwealth War Graves site.

Elsie Maud was born at Clive, 3 January 1888. She lived to 91 years, dying in 1979.

The sons Harold and Norman, founded the well known HODGKINSON's Orchard.

Granny Hodgkinson as Ellen became known, lived at Ada St until her death on 7 November 1945 aged 95. She was truly a pioneer, having left her home and family at the age of 26 never to see them again and to suffer so much grief without family support, in her first few years in New Zealand.
