George was the third son of Joseph and Ellen and was born 14 October 1873 in London. The birth was registered in the London Registration District, sub-district St Bride. The address given is 6 Belle Buildings. Joseph's occupation is given as Labourer.
He was just a few months old when the family sailed for New Zealand.
In 1899 he married Euphemia ARNOTT in Hastings at the home of his mother Ellen and Stepfather, William Wagstaff HODGKINSON. The witnesses were his brother William Thomas SNOWSILL and half-sister Mildred Louise HODGKINSON. George was 25 and Euphemia was 33. Neither had been married before.
Their first son George Reginald, was born in Hastings 12 April 1900.
He died 30 January 1901 and according to his Death Certificate, is buried at Hastings Cemetery. However, his name does not appear on Hastings Cemetery Burial Records.
The cause of death was given as Diarrhoea and vomiting-10 days. George's occupation is given as Drover.
It is interesting to note that There is a plot in the Hastings Cemetery (Block F, plot 62), which was purchased by Mr G Snowsill 14 February 1902 but the plot was not used and reverted back to Council ownership after 60 years.
